Turkish Berthier Carbine Sling

Sling Length - 49 inches
Sling Width - 7/8 inch
This is a Turkish Berthier Carbine 1948 Orman (French MLE-M-16) that I got from a fellow collector in 2001. He got it from Springfield Sporters. These were used by the Turkish Forestry Service according to Springfield Sporters. I would assume Turkey got them from France as milsurp. As for the sling, it is very dry, stiff, and fragile. The sling is molded into the position shown above, and will not lie flat. It will require intervention to keep it from getting any worse. There are no identifying marks on the sling, at least any that still exist. It is made of a medium dark leather.

These are some pictures of the brass button that adjusts the length of the sling. Notice one side is flatter than the other. That flat side goes on the inside. The round side goes toward the outside.
